Today’s Church-goers are earnestly seeking the Holy Spirit. Pew-sitters crave authenticity; they are not satisfied with vague superficial analogies and explanations. They desire to encounter God, truly grow in real holiness, and obtain the knowledge to understand and explain their faith. Unfortunately, the only books available for them on this rich topic are either strictly academic or primarily experiential.
Knowing the Unknown God is a book for those seeking to know the Holy Spirit both in their hearts and in their minds. The book begins by addressing the problem of the lack of intimacy with the Spirit in today’s Church, especially when compared to the Early Church. It proposes that we are not only able to have a personal relationship with the Spirit, but we ought to, and it is necessarily transformative (i.e. your life will not be the same!). The next two chapters explain the Spirit of the Father and the Son who is also the Anointing with which we become children of God (and what this looks like!), while the following five chapters of the book explore the Spirit’s relationship to us in everyday terms. Mazrin concludes his book by incorporating all of this into the Spirit’s relationship to Our Lady, leaving the reader empowered by the marrying of devotion to both the Holy Spirit and Mary.
